NCA Students and Families,

I hope this email finds you all healthy! We want you to know that we miss you all and hope to get back to a regular school day soon. Thank you for taking the time to read the following update information:

Lunch and Material Deliveries

We need your help to effectively continue the lunch and material deliveries. Most districts in the state are requiring families to travel to a bus stop or come to the school to receive food and materials during the distance learning period. New Century Academy believes that we can provide a better service to our families through delivery to each student. For this to continue, we need your help on a few things.

1) Drivers and delivery staff will not make contact with people as part of the recommendations from the CDC and the Governor.

2) NCA recommends that families place a cooler big enough to hold food and binders outside their doors before 9 am on delivery dates. Currently we deliver binders on Friday and pick up binders on Monday. Food delivery is every day.

3) If the binder pick up or delivery is missed, families should call the school and schedule a time to pick up or drop off the binder materials. Education related reasons to leave your home are allowed under the Governor’s order.

4) IMPORTANT: If the distance learning period is extended beyond May 5th, we will be 100% online. In order to make this transition, we will be phasing out the delivery of materials by May 5th. After May 5th, there will be no binder deliveries to the entire school. All education activities will take place online through google classroom and google hangouts meet.

5) Students with Individual Education Plans through Special Education or 504 plans will be given the opportunity to receive printed materials in accordance with their Individual Education Plan or 504 plan. NCA staff will arrange for the delivery of these materials if needed.

Technology and Connection

If you are still in need of a device or internet connection, please contact the school immediately. You can also email the tech team at [email protected] and we will do our best to help.

We also recommend that students use a chromebook or laptop to connect with their classes. Some students are using their phone as this is very difficult to complete work on. If you need a chromebook for this reason please let us know and we will get one out to you.

There has been some question and comment about students being required to log in for the entire two hour time period. This is NOT the expectation. Students should attend the google hangouts meeting each period, however they are not required to stay logged on. The only reason this might be needed is if the student has additional needs or questions. Teachers should be logged on the entire time in the google hangouts meeting so that they are available if a student enters the meeting again to ask questions or seek help.

I hope that helps!

REMINDER: All students must connect with their teachers on a daily basis. Some students are logging in and logging back out again. This will not count for your attendance and obviously will not help you complete the work or develop the understanding needed to be successful in your classes. If there are situations or circumstances that don’t allow you to check in during a scheduled google hangouts meeting, please communicate that to your teachers so they can adjust your attendance accordingly and so that it won’t count against your grades.

Thank you all for hanging in there and continuing to do your best. We appreciate you! Enjoy your weekend.
