Minnesota Wildlife

Wolves, Deer, and Bears – Oh My! Minnesota Wildlife is all about exploring the environment, and animals, around us. Any successful wildlife population is dependent upon conservation and management plans instilled by those who understand ecology and human impacts, which will briefly discuss before diving into the reason we must take care of the environment. Throughout the semester you will become familiar with what makes large mammals, small mammals, gamebirds & waterfowl, and reptiles & amphibians unique from each other. In the land of 10,000 lakes, fishing is also a very important subject area to discuss! We will go in depth about each species of fish found around Minnesota and have opportunities to do hands-on activities to put our learning to good use!

Aimed at meeting Minnesota Chemistry standards, we will review chemistry principles and build upon the science of food. The class also offers opportunities to enjoy some snacks as we cover units around milk/dairy products, meats, poultry & eggs, cereal grains, fruits & vegetables, and candy! Lastly, you will learn about the important improvements made in our food supply with help from biotechnology and become a Food Science Investigator to help keep the food supply safe!
