In 2016 New Century Academy joined in the WE movement, the largest Students helping Students event in the entire world. April 24, 2018 Mrs. Doty’s 8th grade Connections class participated in a hands-on water walk event to learn about the Global Water Crisis. This event included a relevant lesson to students about the reality of life in nations where clean water is not accessible and how that impacts the dynamics of community. The impact is felt on the daily freedoms of life for young girls and women, who primarily carry the burden of gathering water, a task that dramatically changes her quality of life.

The class was challenged to get involved with the WE WALK FOR WATER campaign and raise $25, which will sponsor 1 person with clean water for LIFE, through the WE program. Within only 1 class period, students raised $25. Within only 1 week, the 8th grade class has raised over $100, sponsoring 4 people! Their mission continues as they journey into other big projects throughout the remainder of this school year and into next. Stay tuned to find out what they are up to next!
